Come lend a hand at the Washington County Fair August 24th thru August 30th 2009
Special Thanks to everyone who helped out!
Interested in being a part of a long-standing Washington County Fair tradition? For years, some folks have been saying they wanted to work at the Argyle Fire Department Chicken booth but no one ever asked them. Well now we are asking. We thank you for all your help in the past. It takes a lot of folks to keep the booth working at peak efficiency and we are looking for people for the crew. Because the booth is on the “Must Go To” list for a lot of fair-goers, we can be busy day and night. Volunteers should be prepared to work hard but we generally manage to have some fun along the way as well. Our minimum worker age is 13 and volunteers that are only accepted if they sign up with an adult (14 & over may sign up to work without an adult).
Jobs:
Runners [pick up the orders form the cashier and “run” to get the chicken dinners, hot dogs, burgers and beverages needed to fill the order]
Cashiers [take the orders, ring up the food and beverage items creating the order slip used by the runners, and quickly and accurately make change]
Grill Operators [make hamburgers and cheeseburgers as needed.
Note.” if you can’t take the heat, don’t volunteer for this job]
Chicken Oven Tender [take cooked chicken and baked potato from the warming oven and place in food cartons. Note: Since the oven door is high, shorter folks might want to avoid this job.]
Carton Preparers [make sure each dinner carton is set up with the cutlery set, butter and rolls. This person works well with the oven tender to make sure each dinner is complete as ordered before the cartons are passed to the runners.]
Stock Person [make sure all of the work stations in the booth have all the supplies required in the correct locations, e.g., cups, cartons, milk, ice, etc.]
Hot Dog & Bun Table [cook and place hot dogs in buns as needed by the runners and set out the hamburgers buns for the grill operators.]
Chicken Loaders [loads uncooked chicken on the racks for barbecuing]
Note: Typically we are performing the loading for about 2 hours at a time at 8:00am, NOON &3:00pm. Having this job covered is a really big help to the pit crew.
Note: Cashiers who volunteer will be trained prior to fair week so don’t be concerned if you haven’t done this job before. Why not talk a few friends or co-workers into volunteering with you? Last year we had a day with volunteers from the school and a day where employees from Bates Industries worked. [You don’t have to be a fireman to volunteer. You don’t have to be from Argyle. You just need to be able-bodied and willing to work with a team.
Our day is split into 3 shifts: 1
st Shift = 10 AM to 2 PM
2
nd Shift = 2 PM to 6 PM
3
rd Shift = 6 Pm to 10:30 PM*
*We stop taking food orders at 10 PM but the last crew has to clean up and get things in order for the next day.
If you think you might like to volunteer but have questions, please call Chuck Bates (638-8882) or
Gary Evens (638-8667). You can also email Sandy Hoffis at Sandrahoffis[at]aol[dot]com or send us a message through our "Contact Us" page.
Thank You :)
